<p>Duynie Group received an Eurostar subsidy to support the extraction protein out of potato steam peeling. This subsidy helps to increase the potential of steam peels. The innovation uses an aerobic fermentation process to extract the protein. </p>

<h2>Protein innovation</h2>
<p>Duynie Group has pioneered the concept of the bio-refinery, using co-products from food processes to open up profitable new lines of business. Peelings are nearly pure carbohydrate, and specialised bacteria can turn most of this into protein, which can be separated for onward use. The remaining potato skins also have value in several technical applications.</p>
